If the car started fine yesterday, you left an interior light on overnight, or it’s been sitting unused for a couple of weeks, a flat battery is the most likely culprit. A jump start should get you going, and the alternator will top the battery back up as you drive.
Signs the battery itself needs replacing
If you’ve needed a jump start more than once in the past month, the engine cranks slowly even after charging, or the battery is more than 4–5 years old, it’s likely reached the end of its life. A jump will only buy you a day or two before it happens again.
