Breaking down at night brings its own risks — poor visibility, quieter roads, and less passing traffic to notice you’re in trouble. Here’s how to stay safe until help arrives.
Make yourself visible
Hazard lights on immediately, and a hi-vis vest if you have one. If you have a warning triangle and it’s safe to place it, position it well behind the vehicle on faster roads.
Stay in a well-lit, populated area if possible
If your car can still move a short distance, a well-lit petrol station or car park is safer to wait in than a dark side street, especially if you’re alone.
Lock your doors while you wait
Stay inside with doors locked until you can confirm it’s our team arriving. We’ll always confirm who we are before you need to get out.
Recovery Car operates around the clock across South East London — night-time call-outs are just as much a priority as daytime ones.
